47,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks
have been subjected to a recall
owing to an issue with the steering gear
Nearly 50,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks are undergoing a recall due to a steering-related issue.
Paccar is recalling over 47,000 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks across various models after finding that certain steering gears may have been assembled with an insufficient number of recirculating balls.
The affected Kenworth models include the L770, T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, and W990, all from model years 2024-25.
Similarly, the affected Peterbilt models, also from model years 2024-25, include the 389, 520, 535, 536, 537, 548, 567, 579, and 589.
A steering gear with fewer recirculating balls than required may become bound under load, potentially causing internal parts to fracture and leading to a loss of vehicle steering, thus increasing the risk of a crash.
Paccar dealers will inspect and replace the steering gears as needed at no cost to owners. Notification letters to affected truck owners are slated to be sent out on March 25th.
